Edna O'Brien's new book , "In the forest", which is based on the Brendan O'Donnell murders , is criticised by family members of the victims.

Edna O'Brien's new book , "In the forest" , due to be released in May 2002 , and based on the Brendan O'Donnell murders , has angered the relatives of O' Donnell's victims.

The Brendan O'Donnell Murders in 1994 shocked many people across Ireland because of the cold blooded nature and manner of the killings! These murders were possibly the first in a long line of "strange , unexplainable , no-motive killings" which have exploded throughout Ireland since 1994.

Brendan O'Donnell abducted Imelda Riney and her baby son Liam from their home in East Clare , shot them in the head and dumped their bodies in a wood. He later abducted Ft Joe Walsh and also shot him.

When O'Donnell was apprehended , he declared that , " the devil had told him to kill Ft Walsh , Imelda Riney and Liam"

He also said , "the devil had tried to save his soul!"

This might sound like the ravings of a madman , on the other hand , if one considers the possibility that O'Donnell was involved with a coven , it could make sense!
