Child porn arrests 'too slow'

By Neil Mackay, Home Affairs Editor

OPERATION Ore, the police inquiry which plans to arrest a further 7000 men across the UK, in addition to Who guitarist Pete Townshend, for buying child pornography online is set to end in disaster with many suspects walking free.

Detective Chief Inspector Bob McLachlan, former head of Scotland Yard's paedophile unit, told the Sunday Herald that the lack of urgency in making arrests will lead to suspects destroying evidence of downloading child pornography before they are arrested.

The Sunday Herald has also had confirmed by a very senior source in British intelligence that at least one high-profile former Labour Cabinet minister is among Operation Ore suspects. The Sunday Herald has been given the politician's name but, for legal reasons, can not identify the person.

There are still unconfirmed rumours that another senior Labour politician is among the suspects. The intelligence officer said that a 'rolling' Cabinet committee had been set up to work out how to deal with the potentially ruinous fall-out for both Tony Blair and the government if arrests occur.

Since the September 2002 Operation Ore arrest of Detective Constable Brian Stevens, a key officer in the inquiry into the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, the public have been aware that wanted suspects had downloaded child pornography from a US website called Landslide.

McLachlan, who was one of the main officers on Operation Ore before his retirement last year, said: 'Sufficient warnings have been given that if people haven't got rid of their computers then they are either stupid, don't believe they'll be arrested or are so obsessive about their collections that they can't destroy it. As time goes on, the chances of successful prosecutions will diminish with speed as the information out there must impact on the offenders.'

With only 1200 men arrested so far, McLachlan says that claims by police chiefs and the government that they were prioritising paedophile crime were 'smoke and mirrors'. Paedophilia is still not a priority on the Home Office's National Policing Plan for 2003-06. McLachlan claimed that before he left Scotland Yard his team were under-staffed, over-worked, under-funded and reduced to using free software from computer magazines.

There are around one million images of an estimated 20,000 individual children being abused online. Some police seizures involve hauls of more that 180,000 images. Last year, images of 13,000 new children were uncovered. Only 175 child victims have been identified worldwide.

Police have also revealed that images of Fred West abusing one of his children are among child pornography available for downloading from the internet. It is unclear whether the child was West's murdered daughter Heather.

Peter Robbins, the chief executive of the Internet Watch Foundation, which works with the police, government and internet service providers, in tackling paedophilia online, says software is in development which could remove child pornography from the net forever. The software should be ready in two years.

Police say that the list of rich and famous Operation Ore suspects would fill newspaper front pages for an entire year.

At 3AM Friday 17/1/03 morning my front door window was kicked in. This is only the most recent attack on my house and my cars since 1996. My house windows and my car were smashed at Halloween 2002 and on two separate occasions in August 2002, three house windows were smashed! There have been many other attacks on my cars going back to 1996; all of which were reported to the Gards but the attacks never stopped! NB. I never knew the names of those who attacked my property but they knew me; so why should complete strangers attack someone they do not personally know?

The reason is thise site!

The Missing Persons Issue Ireland exposes Irelands elitist paedophile network and they can call, upon many lackies who will do their bidding, and the top people never get their hands dirty!

Like Belgium, the Irish elitist paedophiles have to be exposed!

  • The Irish missing persons/paedophile situation is identical to the Belgium paedophile scandal involving Marc Dutroux and powerful people in the Belgium establishment!

Marc Dutroux

Quote Dutroux: "He has accused the Belgian police and justice system of refusing to investigate leads he provided, which he says would prove that he was just part of a wider paedophile conspiracy"

This is the reason given by the Belgium "police" for their delay in bringing him to court!

Quote: "

Belgian officials say that the long delay bringing the case to court partly results from the need to investigate alleged networks, which they say do not exist.

Neufchateau's state prosecutor, Michel Bourlet, said on Friday that the court had ruled there was insufficient evidence to try one of Mr Dutroux's co-accused, Michel Nihoul, on charges related to child kidnapping.

The fugitive businessman was initially portrayed as the lynchpin of an alleged ring of paedophiles that included not only Mr Dutroux but also senior politicians and judges.

This week Mr Dutroux appointed a new lawyer, Daniel Kahn, who launched legal proceedings questioning whether the court at Neufchateau had done enough to investigate leads pointing to a widespread conspiracy.

Mr Dutroux, who had a previous conviction for raping minors, was arrested in 1996, just days after the kidnapping of 14-year-old Laetitia Delhez.

He briefly escaped from custody in 1998. "

Question!

(1) what happens to the drugs seized by the Garda?

(2) How can we be sure the drugs seized by the Garda are totally destroyed?

Given the many scandals which are being laid before the Garda, and the rumours that Organised Crime has infiltrated the Garda, can anyone be sure the same seized drugs are not redistributed back to the drug pushers who ply their filthy trade on Irish Streets.

Mr Mike Garde, oft seen on Irish TV and described as a field worker for Dialogue Ireland (Dialogue Ireland), has been quoted in the past as saying: "There is no evidence that Satanism is to be widespread in Ireland", still finds it appropriate to laud the virtues of witchcraft and Wicca on his website, by informing the reader which magazines include articles on witchery and spells.

Quote: "Girls magazines like Just 17 seem to have a lot of features on witchcraft, where they'd interview a teenage girl who is a witch, and they'd give you a spell—it's completely off-the-wall, though, crap.

Indeed, wiccans, shamans and pagans of all kinds seem to be bursting from the TV screen and out of our pages. One only has to look at the supernatural success of Harry Potter, upon which someone must be casting a good luck spell, the youth of today seemingly can't get enough of the occult. "

  • 34,000 nuns claim sexual abuse by other religious

MORE than 34,000 Catholic nuns in America may have been sexually abused, in some cases by priests and nuns, it was claimed yesterday.

Forty per cent of American nuns from 123 religious orders said they had been sexually abused, and nearly 10pc said they had suffered sexual abuse at the hands of priests and nuns in childhood, according to a study partly funded by nuns.

The study by St Louis University, Missouri, is based on the findings of a survey returned by 1,164 nuns. Researchers say it suggests one in 10 nuns thought the abuse was punishment from God, and 6pc considered leaving the Church.

There was no immediate response from the Church in America yesterday.

Ann Wolf, one of the academics who did the research for the health sciences department of St Louis University, a Jesuit foundation, said it was time the Church recognised the problem and acted.

"The bishops appear to be only looking at child sexual abuse. But the problem is bigger than that. Catholic sisters are being violated, in their ministries."

Researcher John Chibnall said he feared the Church would do nothing to address the issue.

"No one has filed a $10m lawsuit," he said. "Nor will they. These are very dedicated; they aren't going to attack the Church."

Meanwhile, it was revealed yesterday that a former US bishop destroyed church records that detailed sexual abuse of children by two Catholic priests.

Court records records indicate Odore Gendron, bishop of the New Hampshire Diocese of Manchester from 1975 to 1990, destroyed documents - in one case at the request of an accused priest.

  • Mother charged with the disappearance of girl

18:05 Tuesday January 7th 2003

The mother of missing Scottish girl Danielle Reid has been charged with her disappearance. The body of the five year old was found this afternoon following a search in the Caledonian Canal near Inverness. Danielle was reported missing last week although it is believed she could have been missing for several months. A man has already been charged with her disappearance and another man is also being questioned. She was reported missing by a member of her extended family on New Year's Eve and there were reports that she may be in the Greater Manchester area. However, there was no evidence of this and the investigation was moved back to Inverness. The exact cause of death will not be known until a post mortem is carried out.
