Mural Focuses on Missing Mexican Women

All are part of a mural Amnesty International unveiled Thursday honoring hundreds of missing and murdered women in Juarez, Mexico, in a case that activists say has been largely ignored by Mexican authorities.

Organizers hope the mural painted by graffiti artists will boost interest in a Valentine's Day (news - web sites) march in Juarez to protest the slayings.

  • DPP will not oppose Wall application
  • 20:38) RTÉ has learned that the Director of Public Prosecutions will not oppose an application by former nun Nora Wall that there was a miscarriage of justice in her case.

In 1999 Ms Wall had her conviction for rape quashed and the DPP fully and ungrudgingly accepted that she was entitled to be presumed innocent of all charges.

The Court of Criminal Appeal was due to consider an application for the certificate in a hearing next week.

  • Aint that just dandy! Walls accomplice - McCabe has also conveniently died, which illiminates another witness in this devilish saga!

    This case stinks!

It almost seems that the DPP is rewarding those accused of child abuse!

DPP decides against retrial in Wall-McCabe case

The Director of Public Prosecutions has decided not to seek a retrial in the cases of Nora Wall and Paul McCabe. The former Mercy nun and Paul McCabe had their convictions for rape quashed, four days after sentence was imposed, on the application of the DPP last July. The DPP was considering whether to seek a retrial. Today a spokesman for the Attorney General told the media that no retrial would be sought.

The Director of Public Prosecutions James Hamilton, had applied to have the convictions quashed mainly because of the fact that a key witness had been called to give evidence in the trial, despite his instruction that that the witness should not be called. However Ms Wall, who had received a life sentence, and Paul McCabe will not receive any apology. The Attorney General's spokesman said this does not arise because the convictions were quashed.

Nora Wall and her family have welcomed the news but say that a number of questions still remain to be answered. The family says they will not rest until the full truth emerges. The pair have always protested their innocence.

A series of communications blunders among State prosecutors led to a key witness who should not have been called giving evidence in the rape trial of former nun Nora Wall and Paul McCabe. In April 1997, when the DPP directed that Nora Wall and Paul McCabe should be prosecuted, he advised the Chief State Solicitors office to inform defence lawyers that one witness would not be called. The Chief State Solicitors Office, failed to tell the defence of the DPP's decision. The prosecuting counsel was advised of the DPP's direction but he forgot about it and advised that the witness should be called. At the trial he was not reminded of the DPP's direction by his junior counsel of the Chief State Solicitor's office. The Junior Counsel was new to the case and did not notice the direction. The people from the Chief State Solicitor's office at the trial did not include the original solicitor and they also failed to notice the direction.

The Gardaí assumed that the senior counsel had been in contact with the DDP and did not remind him of the direction. And the officer from the DPP's office who issued the original direction was on holiday during the trial and only realised what had happened when he heard of the controversial convictions and reviewed the file. The DPP's letter says that it is the first time in 25 years that this type of error has occurred. A number of procedural improvements are now being adopted.

  • Dutroux says he procured girls for Belgian network

The Guardian. Tuesday January 22, 2002

Marc Dutroux, the Belgian electrician accused of kidnapping, raping and murdering four young girls in the mid-1990s, has claimed that he did not act alone but was part of a wider paedophile network.

The horror of his alleged crimes brought 350,000 people on to the streets of Brussels in 1996 to condemn the police and the justice system, which were widely perceived to have bungled the investigation.

And now in an unauthorised interview with a TV journalist who masqueraded as a politician's chauffeur to gain access to Dutroux's prison cell, Belgium's most hated man has alleged for the first time that he procured girls as young as eight for "the network".

His comments have caused uproar in Belgium where the victims' relatives have long claimed the existence of such a network and alleged that its activities were covered up because senior politicians and policemen were part of it.

"A network with all kinds of criminal activities really does exist," Dutroux told VTM, a Flemish TV station. "I maintained regular contacts with the people who made up this network. But the authorities don't want to look into it."

    The Times
    Friday Febuary 01 2002

SHAMED by the Marc Dutroux paedophilia scandal, Belgium watched aghast yesterday as another lurid child sex trial opened on its territory. Nineteen people living in or near the picturesque Ardennes village of Sainte-Ode appeared in the dock, charged with having sex with a 12-year-old girl and other minors. The accused include the girl’s father, 37, who ran a bar and offered her to other men for money, and the village doctor, 44, who has four children of his own. There were at least six other victims, including the girl’s baby sister. The police have seized dozens of explicit and incriminating photographs from the home that the father shares with his girlfriend, a prostitute, in the shadow of a whitewashed village church. Most of the accused have admitted their guilt, but few villagers want to talk about the dark goings-on. The small courthouse in the nearby town of Neufchâteau was packed as the proceedings opened. The girl’s father tried to kick photographers as he was led inside. The case once again focuses attention on Belgium’s paedophilia problem. A month ago the police uncovered a Franco-Belgian child sex ring and are still searching for the body of a young North African girl whom they believe was sold to the ring, then murdered.

(I have suspected for a long time that the Irish establishment Satanic network are bringing in African children for their satanic sacrifices - they are having too much trouble when they abduct Irish kids and women!)

It is the infamous Dutroux case that has really tarnished the nation’s reputation. Dutroux was arrested in 1996 on charges of abducting, raping and killing four girls, two of whom starved to death in makeshift dungeons beneath his house. Dutroux was already on parole for abduction and rape. More than five years later he has yet to stand trial and rumours abound of a conspiracy to protect some important personages. In a recent clandestine interview Dutroux claimed that a child sex network still existed in Belgium and that the authorities were ignoring it. Sainte-Ode is a tranquil village of 2,216 inhabitants that sits amid wooded hills on the banks of the Ourthe River in a conservative and traditional corner of southwestern Belgium. There, from the age of 12, the girl known as “C” was allegedly forced to have sex not just with her divorced father, Pascal, but with a string of other men who visited their home, including a local forester, a car mechanic, a telephone technician, a lorry driver, an antiques salesman and the family doctor, who strenuously denies the charges against him. “They did it with the woman or the daughter, whoever was at home,” the newspaper La Dernière Heure proclaimed. After two years, the girl’s mother went to the police. Her father is also accused of sexually abusing his two other daughters, one just a baby. His girlfriend, Murielle, 30, the prostitute, is accused of aiding and abetting him. The father blames his partner for the sexual perversions that took place beneath his roof, while she claims that he was a violent drinker who forced her to help him. Other accused claim that the couple trapped them. Sainte-Ode is a place where everyone knows everyone. Most of the villagers were aware that Pascal had a conviction for pimping and that Murielle was a prostitute. A small, thin woman, she placed advertisements in local newspapers and used her curtains or a flower pot to signal her availability. The villagers vehemently deny any knowledge of the child sex ring. “The girl was always happy,” Jacques Pierre, the mayor, told the Belgian newspaper Het Niewsblad. “When I was a teacher I more than once came across victims of incest. The kids were scarred. With “C” you saw nothing. “The people in the village have nothing to reproach themselves for. Shame is not appropriate here.” Laura Hay, a resident, said that everyone was shocked when the scandal first broke. Murielle continues to live in the village, most wives of the accused have stuck by their husbands, and journalists are not welcome. A young Dutchman who has taken over the village bar said: “Nobody says anything here. That’s the problem ... In this closed community sex is something that has to be done secretly ... This secretive way of life sooner or later leads to excesses.” The trial is expected to last seven weeks.

  • The Pat Curran murder

This is an old murder case but it is infamous and significant in the annals of unsolved crimes in Ireland!

Guardian Unlimited Books | By genre | Murder, he wrote

"The Blue Tango" by Eoin McNamee

A so-called true crime novel based on Pat Currans murder.

"The apparently random killing of an unsuspecting victim is, of course, alive with novelistic possibilities, and in The Blue Tango Eoin McNamee leaves none of them untested. His subject is Patricia Curran, a judge's daughter stabbed to death in the family driveway in Whiteabbey, Northern Ireland, in 1952. Iain Hay Gordon, a lonely army conscript, was charged with her murder on the strength of a dodgy confession and a cooked-up alibi, his sentence mitigated by a plea of temporary insanity. Last year, the verdict was quashed."

Pat Curran was the daughter of a Northern Ireland High Court judge and in 1952 she was found murdered with multiple stab wounds in the grounds of the family home in the seaside village of Whiteabbey County Antrim Northern Ireland.

Old photo taken on the shore near Macedon Point looking towards Whiteabbey village.

I have an interest in this case because my mother's family lived in Whiteabbey and she knew Pat Curran and her family because my mother worked as a maid for one of the well-to-do families in the area . It should be kept in mind that at that time there were basically two social groupings in British and Irish society and these were the upper and lower classes! The upper classes had all of the wealth and the lower classes had nothing, often existing in miserable living conditions. One might argue that there was a middle class but this might apply to England rather than Ireland where the upper classes owned almost all of the land, which was let to tenants who were survived on subsistence farming.

  • Detective accused of lying at 1953 trial

    by Ian Graham

A SENIOR Scotland Yard detective lied during the trial of an RAF technician convicted of murdering a Northern Ireland High Court judge’s daughter nearly 50 years ago, it was claimed at his appeal yesterday.
Scotsman Iain Hay Gordon was found guilty but insane in March 1953 when he was tried for murdering 19 year old student Patricia Curran.
Her body was found with multiple stab wounds in the grounds of her family home outside Belfast at Whiteabbey, Co. Antrim, the previous November.
The house was only a short distance from the base where Mr Gordon, who was a friend of the murdered girl’s brother, was doing his national service.
Mr Gordon, now 68, spent seven and a half years in a mental hospital before being released to return to Glasgow to live under an assumed name.
He always insisted a confession statement used to convict him was false and signed under police duress.
He has only been able to launch an appeal following a change in the law which allowed the Criminal Case Review Commission — which probes alleged miscarriages of justice — to look into a case where the verdict was ‘‘guilty but insane’’. At the Court of Appeal in Belfast yesterday he launched his bid to reverse the verdict and clear his name.
Opening the appeal, Sir Louis Blom Cooper QC said the verdict of the trial on March 3 1953, was ‘‘not just unsatisfactory but unsafe’’.He said evidence to the original trial that the confession had been dictated by Mr Gordon to police was inaccurate. ‘‘That evidence cannot stand in the light of forensic evidence,’’ he said.
Sir Louis criticised the conduct of Mr Gordon’s trial 47 years ago and hit out at the Scotland Yard detective who led the investigation and obtained the confession.
He accused Detective Superintendent John Capstick — who is now dead — of having lied that Mr Gordon had voluntarily dictated his statement.
The superintendent was never asked about the statement in front of the jury but during legal arguments in their absence had insisted the statement was voluntary and dictated to police by Mr Gordon.
Sir Louis said: ‘‘Superintendent Capstick lied about that.’’

UK prisons cells are constructed and designed specifically to thwart any attempt at suicide! So how did Shipman find a place or spot on the wall or ceiling from where he could hang himself? Where did Shipman find a rope?

This convenient death is very suspicious and is remarkably similar to Fred Wests death in his cell several years ago!

Was there a elitist satanic connection in Shipmans case?

It has been claimed that Fred West was "silenced" because he supplied victims to an elitist satanic coven in the Gloucester area.

Satanism can be described as a type of religion - a theology! Satanists practice their religion by celebrating evil in everything they do - Ritual murder isn't the only manifestation of satanic celebration! Shipman could have celebrated his belief in evil when he deliberately murdered his unsuspecting patients!

  • Arrest of Portugal’s elite in paedophile scandal

    By Paul Mitchell
    18 June 2003

Use this version to print | Send this link by email | Email the author

A scandal concerning the abuse of children in care homes has led to the arrest of several members of Portugal’s social and political elite. The arrests include an ex-Portuguese ambassador, a TV games show host and the employment minister in the former Socialist Party government. A minister in the current Social Democratic Party/Peoples Party coalition government has also been implicated.

The government has used the scandal to attack the opposition and justify the widespread use of phone tapping, long periods of detention and other repressive measures.

The allegations are that state-run care homes were a target for wealthy and influential paedophiles whose activities were covered up for decades by successive Portuguese governments. Since the scandal erupted the Ministry of Labour and Social Security has confirmed that 128 girls and boys who were mainly deaf-mutes at the care homes were victims of sexual abuse.

Portugal’s sexual abuse scandal has been compared to the Dutroux affair in Belgium [1]. Diario de Noticias has warned that if a paedophile “mafia network ... really exists, it is Portuguese democracy which is danger.”

According to Diario de Noticias, Portugal is “reeling from a far-reaching crisis of values and identity.” The author Antonio Mega Ferreira lamented in the weekly Visão, “I can’t recall, during the part 25 years of democracy, ever having felt we were going through such a disturbing, frail, demoralising, upsetting time as we are going through now.”

The scandal first made the headlines last November after dozens of children from Casa Pia care homes publicly accused Jorge Ritto, a former Portuguese ambassador to South Africa, of child abuse.

Casa Pia had the reputation as one of the oldest and most respected state institutions in Portugal. It was founded by Diogo Inácio de Pina Manique, Police Superintendent of Lisbon, following the social instability caused by the devastating earthquake of 1755. Casa Pia prided itself as “the very first establishment of popular education of the Country and the most significant institution of assistance to minors.” The care homes currently accommodate 4,500 orphaned children.

Once the allegations became public Teresa Costa Macedo, a former Secretary of State for the Family, revealed that she knew about them whilst she was a minister in the early 1980s and that very influential people were involved. In 1982, she claimed she told General Antonio Ramalho Eanes, Portuguese President from 1976-1986, about the allegations.

Following the arrest last November of Carlos Silvino, a former resident at a Casa Pia home who then became a driver and gardener for the institution, Costa Macedo warned that Silvino “was just one element in a huge paedophile network that involved important people in our country... It wasn’t just him. He was a procurer of children for well-known people who range from diplomats and politicians to people linked to the media.”

Justifying her silence about the allegations for over 20 years Costa Macedo said, “I received anonymous threats, by phone and post. They said they would kill me, flay me and a lot of other things.”

Costa Macedo claims that whilst a minister she handed police “photographs, an account of the methods used to spirit children out of the orphanage and testimonies of a number of children.” Press reports suggest many of the photographs were found at Jorge Ritto’s house. It is also alleged that when investigators visited Ritto’s house they found four children locked up who had been missing from Casa Pia for several days.

Ritto retired last year from his position as Portuguese representative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation in Paris. The Visão magazine reported in March that Ritto was transferred from his job as consul in Stuttgart in 1970 after German officials complained about an incident with a young boy in a park. Ritto, who is now in police custody, has denied all the allegations of child abuse and accused the media of conducting a “lynching.”

The Portuguese Attorney General’s Office has since confirmed it began investigations into the Ritto affair in 1982, but abandoned them in 1987 for lack of evidence. Files relating to the case were destroyed in 1993.

After the paedophile allegations were first published, Prime Minister Jose Manuel Durao Barroso ordered an investigation. Jorge Sampaio, the President and a Socialist Party leader, proclaimed, “The impunity which for decades on end has made this case a shame for us all will finally end ... Faced with the horror that so many children, who were entrusted to us to be educated and cared for, were victimised it is necessary to declare here that the guilty will be severely punished.”

He implored Portuguese citizens to trust the justice system saying, “We have to hope that our institutions work.”

However, a spokeswoman from Portugal’s Innocence in Danger charity said the organisation had been warning about child abuse for years in Portugal but there had been a virtual “media blackout”.

“It is no good President Sampaio and Parliament sounding off about the problem now and appearing to be knights in shining armour,” the spokeswoman continued. “They, like the police, must have known about the widespread abuse of children in Portuguese institutions for years. They have been warned often enough by charities such as ours but for reasons best known to themselves have remained silent. Their recent acts of breast-beating are outright hypocrisy... Time and time again complaint files are lost, witnesses are seldom interviewed and suspects let off the hook.”

Since Ritto’s arrest, the police have also detained the popular TV games show host Carloz Cruz, known as “Mr Television”, and Joao Diniz, a high society doctor. In April, they arrested Manuel Abrantes, a former assistant director of Casa Pia.

More controversially, in May, the police arrested Paulo Pedroso, Socialist Party MP and Labour and Training Minister from 1999 to 2001 with responsibility for the Casa Pia homes. Pedroso asked parliament to lift his parliamentary immunity so that police could question him about 15 cases of child sexual abuse that allegedly occurred whilst he was minister. Pedroso claims he is a victim of a witch-hunt saying, “I have never participated in any act of paedophilia or any similar act.”

The Socialist Party leader Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues, who is a close personal friend of Pedroso, also offered to undergo police questioning after “he had learned of plans to implicate him in the scandal”. The weekly paper Expresso published a report on May 25 from four children who said they saw Ferro Rodrigues at locations where sexual abuse was taking place. The paper said there was no evidence he was personally involved and the Attorney General José Souto de Moura insists he is not a suspect. Ferro Rodrigues says he will take legal action against those defaming him. “I want it to be clear: our fight will be serene but determined and it is and will only be directed at those who are responsible for this defamation, whatever their objective is.”

As a result of police tapping Pedroso’s mobile phone calls Luis Valente de Oliveira, public works minister in the current government, has also been questioned. Valente de Oliveira resigned in April citing health reasons.

When Durao Barroso came to power in March 2002, he promised to bring “life and honour” back to Portugal’s public institutions after a series of fraud cases. Valente de Oliveira’s association with the paedophile allegations following the embezzlement trial of Portuguese Defence Minister Paulo Portas has made the promise worthless.

Whatever the truth of the child abuse allegations is, the government has used the Casa Pia scandal to justify the widespread tapping of phone calls by the police and the detention of suspects for up to 12 months without charge. There are nearly 300 pages of transcripts of tapped calls made by Socialist leaders, including Ferro Rodrigues. Under Portuguese law the police can tap anyone’s phone if they believe it will help solve a serious crime and providing they have special permission from a judge. The Attorney General said, “I myself could be [tapped] whether or not I was under suspicion, if the conversation would help discover the truth.”

Portugal is one of the poorest countries in Europe with the lowest wage rates and high employment. The country is officially in recession and is threatened by the lower costs offered by the eastward expansion of the European Union into the former Eastern bloc countries. Durao Barroso is pushing ahead with a programme of privatisation and social changes that are provoking widespread opposition. A General Strike on December 10 last year brought the country to a standstill. The strike was called in response to planned labour laws including curbing the right to strike, making dismissals easier, increasing the working week, reducing overtime payment and classifying holidays as a bonus. The use of phone taps, detention and other repressive measures will be vital to defeat any political rebellion against the government.

1] Marc Dutroux, a notorious paedophile and child murderer is still in jail awaiting trial years after his arrest in 1996. The Dutroux case, which uncovered a sordid picture of judicial and political corruption, implicated the highest levels of Belgian society. The general outrage with the political system this produced found its expression in a series of mass “white marches” (so-called because of the white ribbons participants wore in memory of Dutroux’s victims).

Comments: I thought last nights Prime Time program on Garda unaccountability was light-weight, in that the program only tackled the minor complaints, which have been lodged against the Garda. The facts are - infinitely more serious criminal complaints are on the long complaints list, waiting in "the long grass" and will have to be exposed and published eventually. Then the public will see that criminals have been in control of the Irish institutions for decades.

  • Charles Parsons - inventor of the first functional steam turbine, and he built the first marine steam turbine driven ship - "Turbinia". Prior to this, all naval and commercial vessels were driven by piston driven steam turbines, which were much slower and took up a lot of space within the ships. The new steam turbine ships were much shallower in draught, which was an important factor for warships. (were not as tall above the water line)

This famous and prestigious inventor would revolutionise marine travel and warfare, especially in the forthcoming WW1.

Charles Parsons was an "Irishman" (well that is to say he was the first born son of an Anglo-Irish aristocracy family - The Earls of Rosse, with their family home at Birr Castle, County Offaly - now in the Republic of Ireland) and credit has to be given to someone with such ability as he had, however, his forebear, the 1st Earl of Rosse had a rather sinister reputation - Richard Parsons was the founder of the infamous Hellfire Club in Ireland There are suspicions that the original Hellfire "Bucks" engaged in devil worship and human sacrifice!

See: The Hellfire Club and The Hellfire Club - A Tale of Terror for Call of Cthulhu

Here is a quote from the link above:

"The club was a branch of a suppressed English Nyarlathotep cult. After the death of its founder in 1741 the club became inactive but the cult continued, with the 2nd Earl of Rosse as its leader. It was with Nyarlathoteps help that help that William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse built 'the Parsonstown Leviathan' in 1845. This huge telescope (which was dismantelled in 1908) was the largest of its kind until 1917. Though the Irish climate is completely unsuitable for serious astronomy Rosse discovered the spiral nature of other galaxies, the Crab Nebula and the greater nebula in Orion with this miraculous instrument. It's unknown whether his sons: Laurence, the 4th Earl (an astronomer) and Charles (a British inventor who died in 1931) were involved in the cult, which has today spread through the English speaking world."

  • Another devil worshipper "claims to have reformed" and become - surprise , surprise - a Born Again Christian!

See: Satanism and the Born Agains

NB: Below I have added my own comments within brackets!

    'Devil-Worshipper' Stuns Crowd

The Nation (Nairobi), 20 October 2000

Nairobi - A crowd at Kisumu's Moi stadium yesterday listened with shock as Mr. Peter Ben Otieno, 28, narrated his experience as a devil worshipper.

Nyanza Provincial Commissioner, Peter Raburu, presented the self-confessed satanist to a Kenyatta Day rally audience, to prove that satanism was rife in the province.

There was commotion as curious wananchi scrambled to catch a glimpse of Mr. Otieno, who explained the intricacies of devil worship, which he said was responsible for the recent wave of child abductions in the country.

(Amazingly, the Irish Police, the British Police or the FBI have never considered the possibility that devil worshippers are responsible for child abductions in their respective countries! ---- I ask; why have'nt they?)

Mr. Otieno said he had worshipped Satan for seven years.

"I was recruited in Mombasa and taken to the Indian Ocean for initiation. I was stripped naked and made to drink blood from human skulls and I have been an active agent," he said.

He said he had married and divorced 50 women who left him on learning of his devil worship links.

Dressed in a beige suit, Mr. Otieno said devil worship cults targeted mainly school children through peer influence, rock music and immoral programmes in the electronic media.

(Many whistle-blowers in the US and elsewhere have been saying this for years!

EG: Alex Constatine - his book - "Psychic Dictatorship in the USA" was the first book I read, which opened my mind to the spread of devil worship in recent decades and the extent of the criminal activities of the police and media.)

"We worked to destroy society and to cause fear among the peole through rumour mongering and malicious campaigns against prominent personalities. We worked to break family units," he added.

( "We worked to break up family units!" - I would say that this activity is given a high priority in the devil worshippers world wide campaign to create terror, fear and suffering!)

The cults, he added, also used hospitals where they influenced doctors to become reckless and cause deaths.

( Doctor Shipman immediately springs to mind!)

They also worked through road accidents and through corruption, he said.

(Here is where it gets tricky! -- I have read several books on witchcraft and spells -eg: "Witchcraft - fact or fantasy" by Lauran Paine - It has been claimed that accidents or misfortunes are caused by "curses or malices", which have been cast against the victims or their families. Theses things cannot be seen nor heard and they cannot be easily proved; but does this mean they are untrue or only immagination?)

Mr. Otieno, who hails from Ugenya, said a cartel dealing in inter-state child trade was using devil worshippers as agents.

("inter-state child trade - using devil worshippers as agents" -- Once more, the marvelous FBI, Scotland Yard, Interpol and the miserable Gardai (Irish Police) have never considered this probability!)

He said he was now a born-again Christian and regretted his past. The confession comes in the wake of growing tension over alleged child abductions and strange rituals in Kisumu.

("he said he was now a Born Again Christian" -- The majority of Satanists worldwide who claim to have "reformed", also choose the Born Again Movement to join and be "reborn"! Is this a coincidence, or can there be another reason? I ask; are they trully reformed? Cannot it be that they are simply creating another deception, pretending to be reformed by joining the richest, most influencial of the "deceiver christian groups" - the International Born Again Charismatic Christians - funded by the USA corporate rtwing!)

On Thursday, members of the public beat two women senseless at Kibuye market on suspicion that they had stolen two children.

While addressing a Moi Day rally last week, Mr. Raburu attributed problems afflicting the province to devil worship amongst. He promised to present a devil worshipper to the crowd.

Yesterday, the PC said he had brought Mr. Otieno as a public awareness campaign against the vice.

The PC also declared war on wife inheritance, saying the practice was responsible for the rapid spread of Aids in the province.

He ordered chiefs and their assistants to arrest notorious wife inheritors.

The PC assured wananchi that the government had posted surveillance teams along borders to check the spread of the deadly Ebola virus.

Mr. Raburu blamed "lazy" farmers who had neglected their farms for the worsening food security situation in the province.

He ordered chiefs to arrest farmers found to have left their land idle.

  • There has been little or no coverage on Irish TV and press of the Portugese establishment paedophile scandals! - I wonder why? I can guess why!

Portugal: a home for children has become a breeding ground for child abuse?

    Paedophile scandal

Portugal’s Innocence in Danger has applauded the Expresso newspaper for exposing the Cascais Casa Pia paedophile scandal. At the same time it has acknowledged the positive contribution made by THE NEWS and TVI in publicising the on-going problem of paedophile activity within Portugal.

A spokeswoman for the charity criticised other national newspapers and TV media for what she described as a “virtual blackout” of the warnings given out by organisations such as Innocence in Danger on Portugal’s escalating paedophile problem.

She said that the question must be asked as to why even international conferences on paedophilia, including the recent Paris meeting held under the patronage of President Jacques Chirac, had gone unreported by the Portuguese news media. Only TVI and The News covered the event.

The arrest of two suspects for their alleged 20 years of paedophile activity at the Cascais Children’s Home has resurrected the long running debate amongst child protection groups of political and police cover-ups.

The IID spokeswoman told THE NEWS that the past failures of the Portuguese authorities to fully investigate the hundreds of complaints of sexual abuse of children carried out by staff at children’s homes was outrageous.

“It is no good President Sampaio and Parliament sounding off about the problem now and appearing to be knights in shining armour” she said, “they, like the police, must have known about the widespread abuse of children in Portuguese institutions for years. They have been warned often enough by charities such as ours but for reasons best known to themselves have remained silent. Their recent acts of breast beating are errant hypocrisy.”

She said that the government’s vetting procedures where people with previous convictions for paedophilia are prevented from working with children were wholly inadequate. In many cases of child sexual abuse the perpetrators invariably have a history of either having been previously under suspicion or convicted of paedophile activity.

She said that it is about time the Portuguese government dragged itself into the 21st., century and introduced meaningful vetting processes as is the case in the USA. But the crux of the problem, according to the spokeswoman, is the reluctance or inability of the police to carry out thorough investigations into reported acts of child sexual abuse.

Either they are totally inadequate or under pressure from outside influences. “Time and again” she said, “complaint files are lost, witnesses are seldom interviewed and suspects let off the hook by totally inept search methods and investigative procedures. Look at what happened during the 1980’s investigations at Casa Pia. If only a cursory police inquiry had taken place perhaps it would have prevented the disaster that has occurred during the past 20 years.”

She urged the victims and their families to sue the police and local authorities under the European Human Rights Act, for gross negligence in failing to protect the lives of innocent children.

Innocence in Danger is prepared to offer advice to any parent who decides to sue. Beyond doubt the authorities will have to come up with a lot of answers to some very awkward questions. For instance, given the mountain of evidence they had in the 1980’s why did they do absolutely nothing to stop the blatant child abuse that was taking place at Casa Pia?

Why is there no record of the politicians allegedly named in the complaint files being interviewed? Will any action be taken against those in high places, if and when one of the suspects, who have threatened to spill the beans, exposes them as being involved in one of Portugal’s biggest paedophile rings?

It has all the hallmarks of the Marc Dutroux case where for seven years the Belgium authorities have prevaricated about bringing to trial a self confessed paedophile who is alleged to have sexually abused and murdered children.

Child campaigners claim that the reason why Dutroux will never be brought to trial is that he would not hesitate to identify the paedophile politicians and businessmen to whom he supplied children.

Innocence in Danger is concerned that unless there is a radical overhaul of police procedures in respect of identifying and prosecuting paedophiles the general public will take things into their own hands. It has called for more transparency and accountability in respect of the authorities keeping the public fully updated on paedophile investigations. Also recommended is the appointment of an ombudsman to monitor the intent and progress of the police in such cases.

Portugal’s reputation as being one of Europe’s most popular centres for paedophiles is growing.

Several children’s organisations have already accused the authorities of adopting a very relaxed attitude to child abuse.

One described Portugal as becoming a mini Thailand for paedophile tourists.

The American anti-paedophile campaigner, Christine Dolan, who recently addressed the United Nations in Geneva on child trafficking, is preparing a report on Portugal’s paedophilia problems for the Duke of Bragança, Don Duarte.

The duke is hoping the report will convince the government to tighten up existing legislation, and also introduce new procedures, whereby children’s testimony in sex abuse cases is made available to the courts.

At present parents complain that their children, who have been abused, are denied the right of a full hearing by the Portuguese courts.

A similar situation exists in France. A French based children’s charity claims to have on its files the names of businessmen and government officials who are actively involved in paedophile rings.

The list covers the Euro zone including Portugal. THE NEWS has been told that should the authorities attempt to do a whitewash job on the Casa Pia scandal those names with Portuguese connections will be made public regardless of the legal implications.
